The history of SunPower and Maxeon Solar Technologies
SunPower was founded in California in 1985 by Dr. Richard Swanson, an engineering professor at Stanford University. At the time the application of solar technology was largely limited to satelites - Dr Swanson set out to develop cost effective and efficient cell technology that could be utilised here on Earth.
Over the following decades SunPower led the way in solar innovation, developing some of the most efficient cells and panels available. SunPower expanded their reach and in the US market become a one-stop-shop for solar panel design, manufacture, and installation. Throughout the rest of the world and for us here in Australia, SunPower Corporation have always distributed their solar panels via a network of authorised solar installers.
In 2020, Maxeon Solar Technologies was spun off from the US-based SunPower Corporation. Maxeon is headquartered in Singapore and continues to produce high-efficiency solar panels. It maintains the production of both the Maxeon and SunPower brands, upholding their excellent reputation for superior quality and high efficiency.
